Does dying your hair really burn it?

ok i asked my mom if i could dye my hair darker, and no comments on what it will look like and stuff because ive already made the choice about getting temporary stuff first to see if it looks good, but anyway i was ust wondering if it makes your hair get all burnt up and stuff because thats what she thinks and if this proves her wrong then i will show her it and maybe shell rethink it. but dont lie just because i wan my mom to think it wont burn my hair, i would like the truth please. thanx a lot
