What do you do if your friend stole from you?

One of my "friends" stole from me. I don't have concrete evidence (photos) but I am sure he did. The thing he stole is pretty valuable so I want it back - even if it means getting the cops involved. He is no longer my friend (because of this) so I'm not fazed what happens to him. I haven't confronted him yet but my other friend says she say it as his house. It's just too much of a co-incidence that mine went missing when he got one. Any ideas on what I should do?
