What's the best music studio software?

I'm a musician and would like to start puttin some tracks together. Meaning I want the ability to put different recordings together (since most of it will be only me playing all parts) to make actual songs. Also the ability to tweak these recordings and songs to my liking. I'm not sure where to start. What would be the best program for this?
