Why would you deliberately drop a catch in cricket?

because once the 20 overs were bowled if they went off and the game didnt continue england would have won due to the duckworth lewis method. However if he had made the catch and got the batsman out there would have been a delay while the next batsman got ready to bat, if rain worsened in that coupe of minutes then they may have had to leave the pitch with only 19.5 overs bowled and then the match would be a draw. As it happens the rain didnt persist so he really should have caught it lol
